Lunch Ticket Deadline Extended

Due to the long weekend, we’ve extended the purchase deadline to Wednesday, October 12, 2011 for the lunch tickets. Lunch is $15 and will be served at noon in the Courtyard, Medicine Hat College on Saturday October 15, 2011.

Tickets are available at Medicine Hat Public Library and Vera Bracken Library, Medicine Hat College.

Giller Prize Shortlist Announced

Last year's OBOC author Joseph Boyden won the Giller Prize in 2008 -ctv.ca

Looking for some great CanLit reading? The Scotiabank Giller Prize released its shortlist Oct. 4:

  • David Bezmozgis – The Free World
  • Lynn Coady – The Antagonist
  • Patrick deWitt – The Sisters Brothers
  • Esi Edugyan – Half-Blood Blues (also shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize)
  • Zsuzsi Gartner – Better Living Through Plastic Explosives
  • Michael Ondaatje – The Cat’s Table

Lunch Tickets Available

Tickets for lunch on Saturday October 15, 2011 can now be purchased at Medicine Hat Public Library and Medicine Hat College Vera Bracken Library.

Tickets are $15/person and must be purchased in advance. Lunch is served at noon in the Medicine Hat College Courtyard.

Author Jessica Grant to speak at OBOC event

The OBOC committee is excited to announce that this year’s author, Jessica Grant, will be speaking at Medicine Hat College on the evening of Friday October 14, 2011.

In the past, OBOC has hosted authors Joan Clark, Guy Vanderhaeghe, Elizabeth Hay, and Joseph Boyden.

Come, Thou Tortoise is available through the Medicine Hat Public Library’s Library To Go system. This means that you can ‘borrow’ the ebook (an Adobe EPUB file) for use on your own ereading device*, including the Kobo, Sony Reader, Nook, iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, Blackberry, Windows Phone, and Android and Windows Mobile devices. Alternatively, the book can be read on a PC or Mac. A list of compatible devices is available here.
